Strong, Brave, Loved By: Holley Gerth Genre: Devotional, Nonfiction Publisher: Revell Publication Year: 2019 Series: Stand Alone My Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars Synopsis:
Encouragement to live as a woman of confidence and victory You want to be a woman who looks life in the face and says, "You can't beat me." A woman who knows love is a risk and reaches out anyway. A woman who understands kindness takes real courage. Who doesn't fake it or try to hide her scars. Who fights to believe she is who God says she is and helps others do the same. In Strong, Brave, Loved, bestselling author Holley Gerth offers you sixty short devotions to empower you to be that kind of woman. It's simple, personal, and practical, with room for you to journal your own responses and reflections as you learn to live in freedom, hope, and holy courage. ~Taken from the back of the book. This book is first of all hardcover, but doesn't have a dust jacket (thank you! they are annoying) and the image on the front is textured. Then I opened the cover, and oh my word, it was this beautiful paper with flowers *sigh* Also, if this isn't the icing on the cake, I don't know what is! It has a red silky ribbon bookmark. Whoever put this book together did a wonderful job of making it feel feminine and beautiful as well as well thought out...I mean I am always looking for a bookmark and this has one included...genius. So, enough about the book and onto the content. What a read. This book is a 60 day journey to becoming more confident, not only as a woman, but as a Jesus follower. Each chapter is a sweet, short, engaging read. At the end there is a prayer and then a question to reflect on as well as space to write those reflections. The writing was relatable, down to earth, very easy to understand and easy to apply it to one's own life. Recommend? Yes! I recommend this for women from teenage on up. This resource helps you think critically about lies you believe and helps you follow more freely after Christ. Cheers, Rebecca Revell Reads sent me this complimentary copy to review for them. To learn more about Matt, click here My Thoughts: For this book, I asked my husband, Luke, to read it and give me some feedback on it from a man's point of view (especially since this book is written for men). Although I have to admit, I did pick it up and flip through it and I have to say it was almost as good as the woman's version. (Click here to read that review) Here is what Luke had to say about this book: I can’t begin to say just how great a book this is. This book is full of tidbits of wisdom that will help you be a better husband. What I really love about this book is how easy a read it is. Almost all of the “100 Ways” are less than one page each. That means you can easily read one in less than five minutes. If you read one a day for 100 days, you are on your way to a better marriage. Even if you think you are the perfect husband, I bet you will find at least one way to love your wife better and I think that is worth the price of this book (and I’m sure your wife would agree). Recommend? Yes, I (Luke) recommend this book for any engaged or married men. Cheers, Rebecca Revell Reads sent me this complimentary copy to review for them. All opinions expressed are my own. |
