The Heart of a King By: Jill Eileen Smith Genre: Historical/Biblical Fiction Publisher: Revell Publication Year: 2019 Series: Stand Alone My Rating: 4 of 5 stars Synopsis:
King Solomon was wealthy and wise beyond measure. He could--and did--have anything he wanted, including many women from many lands. But for all his wisdom, did he or the women in his life ever find what they searched for all of their lives? In this engrossing novel, you'll find yourself whisked away to ancient Israel, where you'll meet Solomon and four of the women he loved: Naamah the desert princess, Abishag the shepherdess, Siti the daughter of a pharaoh, and Nicaula the queen of Sheba. As you experience the world of Solomon through his eyes and the eyes of these women, you'll ask yourself the ultimate question: Did Solomon's wisdom ultimately benefit him and those he loved . . . or did it betray them? ~Taken from Jill Eileen Smith's website: https://www.jilleileensmith.com/the-heart-of-a-king My Thoughts: Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres to read. I would classify this book as Biblical fiction. It has been a long time since I have read Biblical fiction, but when I saw this story included the Queen of Sheba, I was intrigued. The Queen of Sheba has always fascinated me especially since she has such a short interlude and I could not wait to reach her story. The book description makes it sounds like the book is about four of the wives of Solomon, but most of the book takes place from Solomon's perspective. I was a little disappointed in the storylines of the wives. It felt like once Solomon was married to them and therefore done wooing them, their story was over. While I was disappointed over this, the writing was very descriptive and held me captive. Recommend? If you like Biblical fiction this would be a great choice for you. The author does a great job of weaving the story. Cheers, Rebecca Revell Reads sent me this complimentary copy to review for them. All opinions expressed are my own.

A second non-fiction book. For someone who reads only fiction, this was another unusual choice for me. But with this book, first the cover caught my attention (isn't it beautiful?!) and then the description. The last few months have been so busy, between selling our house, moving in with my parents, preparing for a baby and looking for a new house, life has been overwhelming at times. Enter this book. This book is a 30 day devotional designed to fit into a busy life. The short chapters with reflection questions at the end of each were the perfect interludes to my day. Also, she would include a short blurb at the beginning of each chapter that were beautiful. All throughout the book she compared our hearts to a garden, which I loved. It was an easy comparison to relate to even though I don't do a lot of gardening. The front of the book says it best - "30 days to slow your pace, savor scripture and draw closer to God" Recommend? Yes! I highly recommend this devotional as it presents many good reminders and gives the space to examine where you are at.
