Living Lies By: Natalie Walters Genre: Romance, Suspense, Fiction Publisher: Revell Publication Year: 2019 Series: Harbored Secrets, Book #1 My Rating: 5 of 5 stars Synopsis:
In the little town of Walton, Georgia, everybody knows your name--but no one knows your secret. At least that's what Lane Kent is counting on when she returns to her hometown with her five-year-old son. Dangerously depressed after the death of her husband, Lane is looking for hope. What she finds instead is a dead body. Lane must work with Walton's newest deputy, Charlie Lynch, to uncover the truth behind the murder. But when that truth hits too close to home, she'll have to decide if saving the life of another is worth the cost of revealing her darkest secret. ~Taken from Natalie Walters' website: https://www.nataliewalterswriter.com/books/living-lies-harbored-secrets-1/ My Thoughts: Spectacular. Natalie Walters delivered not only a masterfully crafted story, but she did it while tackling the difficult topic of depression and mental illnesses. She balanced the storyline beautifully. Natalie hinted here and there, but left the reader guessing until the end when she wrapped it all up with a nice neat bow. The characters were very well fleshed out and believable. Lane struggles with depression throughout the book and it is handled perfectly. Lane isn't "fixed" by the end of the story, but she comes to recognize the truth. Charlie is such a sweet character. He isn’t perfect by any means, but he tenderly pursues Lane and doesn’t let her push him away. The supporting characters (aka Ms. Byrdie and Megan) speak life into Lane, while Frost and Bane add some humor. All around this is a well written story and I am very much looking forward to the next installment in this series. Recommend? Yes! I would recommend this for older teens and up. This book has the right amount of suspense mixed with a sweet romance story. Cheers, Rebecca Revell Reads sent me this complimentary copy to review for them. All opinions expressed are my own.
